MS «Sandnes» was in the period 1950-1974 a coastal cruise ship belonging to Sandnæs Dampskibs-Aktieselskab (SDA), Sandnes which got stuck in the night route Sandnes / Stavanger - Haugesund - Bergen . "Sandnes" was not only the largest and most beautiful of the night cruise ships, but was also an extremely well-proportioned vessel that was often referred to as the coast's most beautiful ship. After the night route was closed in 1974, "Sandnes" was sold for use as a lodge ship "Vikingfjord" during platform construction, before in 1977 it became a school ship "Gann" in Stavanger and from 1995 "Sjøkurs" in Kristiansand . When "Sea course" in 2007 was to be replaced byMS "Ragnvald Jarl" , the old night cruise ship was sold home to Rogaland where it regained its old name and was painted in its original SDA green color. As of 2010, "Sandnes" has been declared worthy of preservation by the National Heritage Board and is Norway's largest veteran ship .
