In dieser hübschen Blechdose gab es in Cairo im Groppi in der 1980er Jahren sehr leckere frische Datteln mit Schokoladenüberzug. Giacomo Groppi, auch Jacques Groppi, (* 1863; † 1958), war ein Schweizer Konditor, Gastronom und Unternehmer, der 1920 das gleichnamige Café Groppi in Kairo gründete. Das 1925 am heutigen Midan Talaat Harb eröffnete Stammhaus entwickelte sich zu einem gesellschaftlichen und kulturellen Zentrum Kairos. Inzwischen ist das Cafe allerdings sehr in die Jahre gekommen aber immernoch sehenswert.

In this pretty tin box in Cairo im Groppi in the 1980s, there were very tasty fresh dates with a chocolate coating. Giacomo Groppi, also Jacques Groppi, (* 1863; † 1958), was a Swiss pastry chef, restaurateur and entrepreneur who founded Café Groppi in Cairo in 1920. The parent company, which opened in 1925 at what is now Midan Talaat Harb, has developed into a social and cultural center in Cairo. In the meantime the cafe has gotten very old but is still worth seeing.
