Palarus

Simplistic at best and archaic at worst, "Palarus" automated platform doesn't have enough thrust to compete with modern starfighters and attack crafts. It lacks armor and shielding and generally can't engage in active combat. But it has one big advantage - low cost.

These platforms designed to be mass produced and sold to small colonies, outposts and facilities, that can't afford their own defense forces or hiring a private military. They can operate autonomously or rely on dedicated targeting systems — hanging in orbit and watching silently.

Its' armament provides basic protection against pirates, smugglers, and all sorts of bandits. Its' EM cannon can be even used against asteroids and other debris. This platform designed to hit from distance: on its own it can take out vessels of a size up to a gunboat — with an arrange of rockets.

Since primary design objective was to reduce cost, the most expensive elements on these platforms are their ammunition and sensors. It has a basic civil-grade small reactor to keep all the electronics functional. It lacks any complicated cooling systems — that's why there's a big radiator on top of the vessel. In result it resembles a primitive vessels which were used in 23rd century — and this simplicity allows for zero maintenance while operating for decades.

Although it designed as a sort of "stationary" gun platform to put out the ragged intruders, it curiously saw use by pirates and rebels in active combat amidst asteroid belts. Low thrust is not a problem in these specific conditions and they're cheap — which means that they can be used in hundreds even by poor gangs.

Wow, that was a tough July... WDYM IT'S NOVEMBER???

My NoVVember build - enjoy, hopefully my lore dump isn't that boring. Wanted to build something a-la "NASApunk" but still within "my universe". You can make up whatever lore you like though. ;D
