Xyston class rocket cruiser

Length: 530 m

Width: 148 m

Height: 218 m

Xyston class was developed shortly before the Great Insectoid war and was envisioned as a future of capital ship warfare. Military theorists of that time thought that classic linear artillery ships will quickly obsolete in the short future and will be replaced by smaller and more agile vessels armed with heavy missile payload.

Xyston class followed this idea - it originally had a armament of 36 heavy anti-ship ballistic missiles and only two dual turbolaser cannons in the nose.

Later naval command demanded to install three additional light dual turbolasers in the middle of the ship to increase its defensive capabilities.

Though before the great war it proved to be highly effective against pirates and small regional armies due to its agility and advanced targeting system, when the Insectoid War started, it became clear very quickly that this class just can't stand against alien hordes of vessels.

Its lacking of armor was the critical flaw and even 36 missiles can't provide enough firepower in large-scale battles.

For this reason, the production of this type of ships was almost completely stopped in the first year of the war. However, later, these ships turned out to be useful as part of large fleets, which could provide them with protection, and Xystons, in turn, could effectively destroy point targets, or shoot into gaps in the enemy's deflector shields opened by other ships.
