Stentor igneus is a trumpet-shaped ciliate in its most common state, its contours can vary dramatically and take on oval or spherical shapes that make identification extremely difficult. Stentor igneus is one of the smallest Stentor within the group, the presence of a single nucleus and its somewhat pink coloration are the characteristics of its identity.
