Lembadion bullinum

Phylum: Ciliophora

Class: Oligohymenophorea

Order: Peniculida

Family: Lembadionidae

Genus: Lembadion

Species: L.bullinum

Lembadionidae is a family of ciliates in the class Oligohymenophorea and order Peniculida.

Lembadionidae are small (<80 μm) to medium (80–200 μm) in size. Their shape is broadly ovoid. They are free-swimming. Their somatic ciliation is holotrichous (i.e. uniform), with a postoral suture. The caudal cilia are long, forming a tuft. The buccal region is expansive and occupies almost the entire ventral surface. The left buccal cilia appear as a long polykinetid (probably longitudinally fused penicles). The paroral ciliation is long, accompanied on its right by a long line of dikinetids. Their macronucleus is an elongated ellipsoid. A micronucleus is present. A single contractile vacuole is noted. They feed on flagellates and other ciliates.
