. . Pivot Mill. France

Pivot Moulin. A windmill has been on this site since 1477. Closed (ceased operating) 1981. Levesville la Chenard. France

From a tourist brochure;... "A wooden windmill on a 15th century pivot, mounted on a stone base. In perfect working order, this Don Quixote jousting windmill has a solid stone base that has carried it for 500 years. Wings (sails) 18 meters wide, 40 tonnes in all, the mill rotates on a pivot called the Bumblebee. Etienne Bourgeon, a merchant and farmer ordered the construction of the mill in 1477. For 500 years it has not stopped turning".

The post mill is the earliest type of European windmill. Its defining feature is that the whole body of the mill that houses the machinery is mounted on a single vertical post or pylon, around which it can be turned to bring the sails into the wind.

Notice the "wind farm" windmills on the horizon.
