There is no UK Sport funding for proper skiing, though ten other winter sports share £31m. Most cash goes to skeleton, the incredibly expensive sport where they have to finance a tea-tray and a helmet. Next is curling, that paradigm of athleticism, where just the gym work must cost a bit. The trainers (coaches), the trainers (footwear), the physios, the medics for these fearless heroes, risking life and limb at 3mph. They deserve the funding... Slopestyle, snowboard and short-track speed skating all get a fortune. Bobsleigh even. Perhaps the head of UK Sport said they needed a bob, and his secretary thought he said a few bob. So they got a few million bob...

But Dave doesn't complain. He said "it was a roller coaster of emotions but I've lead a few dry slope races back in the UK so its kind of the same thing."
