IMG_4448 Eggstraction

On several occasions one of the Brolgas raised it's head out of the grass with what looks like an egg. Questions:

What laid the egg? It's a reasonable size.

Where are the owners of the egg?

Why were there so many eggs?

 

Whatever the answers, it went straight down the hatch.
