Sugarloaf Pineapple

Colored Pencil magazine’s Fresh and Fruity challenge by Karen Emerson, intermediate cat. Used Faber Castell polychromos on Clairefontaine Pastelmat, 9 x 13 , color sand. I loved doing this challenge because I finally get to use all the fun colors! My husband and I moved to Kauai 4 years ago and one of the many fun things we get to do is grow our own pineapples. This pineapple is called a sugarloaf pineapple. They are less acidic and have a smooth sweet taste. Next time you visit Hawaii , go to a local farmers market and try one. During the 2 year growth cycle, the leaves turn from green and light pink (like the one in the background ) to bright pinks and reds! Can you imagine a field of pineapples when they are all in this stage!
