A Magical Evening

It was the night of Arias' Comet! Having been waiting a long time for this, both Vin and Cormack were eager for nightfall! They worked together to make sure everything was ready and packed for go-time: marshmallows, hot chocolate in a thermos, blankets and pillows, the telescope...and Corry's guitar?

As the couple walked up the small hill hand in hand towards their favorite spot overlooking the ocean, Vin peeked up at Cormack out of the corner of his eyes and smiled slightly. He wasn't one to assume anything but Cormack HAD picked up guitar some time ago. He had been practicing hard and in private as of late. Was he finally going to play for him tonight? He wouldn't ask though. He liked surprises!

Cormack could feel Vincent's eyes on him and he could tell his husband wanted to ask about the guitar slung over his shoulder. He glanced towards him with a slight blush and grin, squeezing his hand as they broke through the small patch of woods and approached the rocks.

"Here we are! How much longer do we have?" Cormack asked as he released Vin's hand and made his way towards the small blocks of wood made for sitting on. Vin began to set down his own load and checked the time really quick.

"About thirty minutes! Let's get set up!"

Vin went to set up their telescope and Cormack went to get started on the bonfire to give them some extra light. Soon enough their blankets and pillows were set out, the perfect marshmallow sticks were found, hot chocolate was dished out, and they were ready! The only thing missing was the comet! And soon enough it was time for it to arrive!

Vin was standing before the telescope now, peeking up every so often before looking back inside the telescope. Nearby Cormack was filling their cups with some hot chocolate when he heard Vin's excited voice call out to him.

"I see it!"

"Oh!" Cormack finished capping the thermos and picked up both cups and approached his husband, eyes in the sky. However he didn't see it anywhere.

"Where? I don't see it yet," he responded to which Vin snickered, "You wouldn't with the naked eye yet, silly. Wow its so beautiful! Here! Come here!" Vin moved out of the way eagerly, grinning up at his husband.

Cormack chuckled and offered Vin his own cup before moving to stand before the telescope. Behind him, Vin sipped happily at his mug and stared up at the sky with a murmured, "Thank you, Baby. This is perfect."

"You're welcome," Cormack responded with a flash of a smile. "Glad you approve." Then he leaned down to see the comet for himself.

The colors were so gorgeous! It was better than Cormack could have imagined it would look! He'd never seen one in person with a telescope before!

"Wow!" he breathed breathlessly as he took in the beauty. Cormack watched for another moment before lifting his head to grin at Vin who grinned back and took another turn. It was only a minute later that a light began to grow in the sky.

"There it is!" Cormack pointed out as he slid his arm around Vin's waist. Vin lifted his head from the eye piece and leaned against Cormack's side as he sipped some more hot chocolate and replied, "I see it!"

Together they made their way back towards the blanket where they laid out side by side and stared up at the sky. Watching Arias' Comet was a rare treat. It a comet that came so very rarely and hadn't been seen for generations!

Some time passed and the couple took turns going to the telescope, peeking and staring at the comet in all its lovely glory. Marshmallows and hot chocolate were had as well and all was going beautifully.

The fire was starting to burn down just a bit lower so Cormack was adding extra small logs into the fire. Glancing over his shoulder at his husband he saw he was peeking back through the telescope. It was nice to see Vin relaxed and enjoying their evening together out here.

Vin licked his lips, turning the telescope to angle a bit better. They had been out here for a couple of hours now and soon it would be time to head back. As Vin finished adjusting, he heard the sound of a zipper unzipping behind him and he realized Cormack was finally bringing out his guitar. He pulled himself away from the sight of Arias' Comet to look back towards the fire and his husband.

Sure enough, Cormack was sitting on one of the upright logs and was blushing with a shy smile as he set the guitar bag behind him, guitar settled on his knees. He peeked towards Vin, grinned, then set the guitar more properly on his knees and began to pluck gently to get a feel for it.

Vin smiled softly and went to rejoin him by sitting down on the blanket beside Cormack, getting comfortable as he watched and listened. Well wasn't this extra romantic? Then he began to realize...Cormack was starting to actually play a song; something familiar!

Vin's smile spread, his eyes lighting up and his heart melted as he realized that Cormack had actually learned to play one of their favorite songs: 'Yellow' by Coldplay. However it was a soft, acoustic version much like one that he, Vin, would often sing for Cormack as he always requested.

Cormack smiled for his husband and as the music shifted into the melody, a soft yellow light began to glow between them. As Vin's attention shifted, he gasped softly in wonder as the yellow light shifted to a soft orb before expanding and shifting to a more corporeal shape.

A lovely yellow butterfly made of the yellow light transformed and spread its wings. it began to flutter gently around them as the melody took off. It was so lovely and magical, Vin thought!

Cormack smiled more, humming softly as he played for his beloved. And as he continued to strum gently, more yellow lights began to magically appear and soon there were four lovely yellow butterflies adding to the magical ambience of the evening.

Vin felt his heart fill with wonder and so much love for this; all of this. Cormack had even learned the song on guitar for him!

Soon the song drew to a close and as it did, the yellow butterflies began to flutter off and faded into the night sky. Both men watched as they did, the fire crackling behind them quietly. A moment later, Vin turned to look up at Cormack and as he did, he shifted up onto his knees and scooted close with one of those rare, sweet smiles.

Cormack set the guitar aside and slid his arms around his husband's waist, smiling softly and gazing into his eyes and their foreheads pressed. And there, Vincent sang softly:

"Look at the stars

Look how they shine for you

And all the things that you do..."

And he leaned in to press his lips to Cormack's, his heart filled with love for him. What a perfect gift and night this had been!
