Afranthidium schulthessii nest entrance
This appears to be the first time the nest of this species has been photographed. Obviously Afranthidium schulthessii collects plant tomentum to line its cells. I can only assume that this curious ring of material is loose fibres scraped off each time the female enters. Theories as to what we are observing here are very welcome.
