Audain Art Museum
Kamloops & Whisler, CANADÀ 2024
The Audain Art Museum, opened in 2016, is Whistler’s premier cultural institution and houses one of the most significant private art collections in British Columbia.
The Collection: The museum is renowned for its extraordinary collection of First Nations art, including one of the world's finest collections of historic Northwest Coast wooden masks. It also features works by the iconic Canadian painter Emily Carr and renowned contemporary artists such as Jeff Wall.
Architecture: The building itself is a masterpiece. Designed by Patkau Architects, the dark-clad, minimalist structure is designed to "float" within a forest of evergreen trees, blending seamlessly into the natural landscape.
Mission: Founded by philanthropist Michael Audain, the museum's mission is to showcase the visual heritage of British Columbia from the late 18th century to the present day.
Experience: A visit offers a peaceful, cultural sanctuary that provides a perfect contrast to the high-energy activities of Whistler’s ski slopes and village.
