Audain Art Museum

Kamloops & Whisler, CANADÀ 2024

The Audain Art Museum is a notable private art museum located in Whistler, British Columbia. It opened in 2016 to house the private art collection of Michael Audain and his wife.

Architecture: The building's design is one of its most striking features. Designed by Patkau Architects, the dark-coloured structure is elevated on stilts to protect it from flooding and is seamlessly integrated into the surrounding forest environment. Its long, bridge-like form suggests a span across a mountain landscape.

Collection: The museum focuses on the art of British Columbia, spanning from historical pieces to contemporary works. The permanent collection includes one of the world's most significant displays of Northwest Coast Indigenous masks and works by celebrated artists such as Emily Carr and E. J. Hughes.

Location: Situated in the heart of Whistler Village, the museum provides a cultural counterpoint to the area's sports and resort atmosphere.
