Turk's Head

Dublín, IRLANDA 2024

The Turk's Head is a historic pub and late-night venue located on Parliament Street, in the heart of Dublin's Temple Bar district.

History and Name: The establishment's original name, the Turk's Head Chop House, dates back to at least 1760. It sits in one of Dublin's first formally planned areas (Parliament Street), close to the River Liffey where sailors historically docked. The name is common for pubs in the UK, often linked to the Crusades or heraldic symbols, although theories also involve a type of sailor's knot or former Turkish owners.

Design and Atmosphere: Today, the venue is known for its distinctive and opulent interior design, which departs from the traditional Irish pub aesthetic. Its most striking features are the Gaudi-inspired mosaics and painted ceiling domes, giving it a Spanish or Mediterranean flair.

Current Function: It operates as a bar and restaurant during the day and transforms into a lively late-night music venue and club, making it a vibrant and eclectic part of the Temple Bar nightlife.
