Via Gilbert Ferret, L' Alguer.

SARDENYA 2024

Via Gilbert Ferret is one of the most prominent streets within the historical centre (Old Town) of Alghero, Sardinia, Italy. Unlike the more modern Via Carducci, this street immediately plunges you into the city's Catalan and medieval soul.

Location and Character: It is a narrow, often pedestrianised street that runs through the heart of the walled city. It is defined by the Catalan-Gothic architecture characteristic of the palaces and buildings lining it.

Points of Interest:

Commerce and Tourism: It serves as a popular shopping street, hosting boutiques, shops specialising in coral jewellery (Alghero's signature craft), and local products. It also contains many tourist accommodations (apartments) and restaurants.

Nearby Landmarks: It's surrounded by key historical sites, including the Church of St. Francis (Chiesa di San Francesco) and the Torre di Porta Terra (Gate Tower), all just a short walk away. The Palazzo Tarragons (now Palazzo Guillot), featuring 15th-century Catalan-Gothic elements, is also located here.

Atmosphere: The street perfectly captures the historic atmosphere of Alghero, connecting visitors directly to the cultural and linguistic Catalan heritage still present in the city.
