SARDENYA 2024
The Torre de Sant Elm (Torre di Sant'Elmo in Italian) is one of the historic defensive towers that form part of the ancient ramparts and bastions of the historic centre of Alghero, Sardinia.
Built during the Catalan-Aragonese period (16th century), the tower played a vital role in the city's defensive system. It is named after Saint Elmo (Saint Erasmus), the patron saint of sailors, who was widely venerated in Alghero. One of its most distinctive features is the statue of the Madonna di Stella Maris (Star of the Sea) that tops the structure, serving as a symbol of protection for seafarers. The tower, accessible via the ramparts (Bastioni), offers one of the most spectacular panoramic views of the harbour, the sea, and the Alghero bay.
