Syrian woodpecker male at nest cavity (Crop).

Last spring I had noted the male Syrian woodpecker that occasionally shows up around our house had begun excavating a cavity in a tree he seemed to have favored during the winter (A lot of the other trees in the area collapsed following a harsh snowstorm the previous winter). As the months went by, not only did the male repeatedly visit, as did the female. It became more & more likely for the two birds to chose this as their nest site, so I placed a miniature blind (Which was essentially a tent with a chair inside), waited about a week, then went in to photograph & record videos. Ironically enough, I had to take the blind down shortly thereafter as we left the country to go on a trip. I'm sure they were successful at rearing young however, hopefully the birds stay well fed & healthy!
