Entrance to the Pskovo-Caves Monastery in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Only half a century later, with the hegumen Dorofee, the monastery again rose and blossomed: in the 20s of the 16th century the Church of the Assumption was renewed and expanded, a chapel was built in the name of the Monks Anthony and Theodosius of the Kiev-Caves. Other temples and monastic buildings were also erected. The construction was led by the tsar's deacon, who had the authority of the plenipotentiary representative of the Grand Duke of Moscow in Pskov, Misery Munehin, who conducted the work on a large scale. For services in the arrangement of the monastery, he was buried first in the monastery cave as the first layman.
In 1521 the monastery found the miraculous icon of the Assumption of Our Lady "in the Life" (with the hagiographic stamps). This image was painted by the icon painter Alexei Malyi, commissioned by the Pskov "trade people" Vasily and Theodore (Theodore later took tonsure with the name Theophilus and died in the monastery).
During this period the monastery moved from the mountain down to the valley of brook Kamenets, the cells were placed against the Assumption Church.
The last in time construction of the monastery tower - Gateway Petrovskaya (1699), was created as the new main entrance to the monastery. Its name was received in honor of Peter I. The tower is elegant, with a covered gallery in the upper part and a multi-tiered baroque finish. In the tower is the church of Cornelius.
