Déjà Vu!

One week on and once again GB Railfreight Driver Eric French passes through Hartford around 7am with a heavily delayed Caledonian Sleeper Up Lowlander (1M11).

At this point the service was just over three hours late (189 Late) but managed to arrive into Euston 'only' two hours and 21 minutes after its publicised arrival time (141 Late).

The locomotive this time was 92023 and the delay was caused by a DB freight train derailing on the trap points protecting the mainline as it pushed back too far in the Hardendale Quarry sidings at Shap.

The rear derailed wagons were too close to the Up Main line and therefore Single Line Working (SLW) was implemented overnight. Due to the need to isolate a section of OHLE to protect the BRUFF re-railing team, the SLW ended up being a 20 mile stretch from Penrith to Tebay.

This caused major delays to the overnight sleepers and freight as they had to wait their turn to pass through the SLW section.
