Saint Saëns Returns From Her Carlisle Caper (1)

After only getting as far as Carlisle with the previous night's Down Highlander when the River Caldew burst its banks, GB Railfreight Class 92, 92028 (formerly named "Saint Saëns") returns south through Hartford the following morning to get itself and its stock back in position.

With what was Wednesday night's 1S25 effectively stuck in Carlisle's Platform 3 until the floodwaters subsided on the Thursday afternoon, there was no time to get the stock north for servicing or passenger use. Consequently, the southbound Highlander on the Thursday night was cancelled and instead 92028 ran round the stock at Carlisle and worked the empty stock back to London in the usual 1M16 path, but as 5M16 0310 Carlisle to London Euston.

The move was 67 minutes late at Hartford following a delayed start from Carlisle, which had meant the train had spent just over 24 hours sat in Platform 3 before retracing its steps.
