Back In (Wartime) Black
LNER Class A4 4498 "Sir Nigel Gresley" heads through the evening light at Acton Bridge as it works the return leg of its first mainline passenger-carrying tour since its major overhaul that ran from 2015 to 2022.
The charter - operated by Locomotive Services Group - was exclusively for Sir Nigel Gresley Locomotive Trust members, with the return leg running as 1Z62 16:00 Carlisle to Crewe.
SNG has been painted temporarily into Wartime Black for its return-to-service testing and this will be its only mainline charter outing in this coat of paint before it receives one of its more well-known liveries ready for its stay with LSG working Saphos Trains charters.
