Locomotive Services Limited Class 87, 87002 “Royal Sovereign” heads out on its first loaded test run since Summer 2020, as it prepares to lead off the LSL InterCity 2022 railtour season on 26th January with The Electric Scot to Glasgow.
The test run - crossing the Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal near Winsford - was running as 5Z50 09:00 Crewe D.H.S. to Carlisle. Mk3 DVT 82139 was on the rear ready to lead the return leg up the WCML later in the day.
This is believed to be the first Class 87 + full InterCity rake running on the mainline since 1999.
