Unusual Orientation

Day 3 - 1Z31 12:52 Oban to Carlisle

LNER Class 91, 91130 "Lord Mayor of Newcastle" stands at Carlisle having arrived with the GBRf 2021 charity railtour at the earlier-than-planned end of Day 3.

Running direct from Mossend to Carlisle via the WCML was a change to the original plan of going via Newcastle due to the outbreak of a D&V virus on board. Whilst this deprived the tour-goers of Class 60 haulage, it did mean the Class 91 ended up running No. 2 (or "blunt" end) first along the WCML in excess of 100 mph - another highlight of the tour.

This is part of my selection of photos from the GBRf Charity Railtours 2021 "This Time it's Personal" four-day railtour, which I was on throughout. The tour was raising money for Prostate Cancer UK, a disease that one of the three main organisers has been impacted by and hence the reason for the tour and its strapline.

This was also quite personal for me as my Dad has battled prostate cancer and his father (my grandfather) died of the disease before I was born.

Despite the well-documented challenges, this was an excellent tour with a significant sum raised for the charity. It was also announced at the end that it would be the last multi-day GBRf Charity Railtours escapade in this format for understandable personal reasons impacting the key organisers.
