A Large Team Effort
Due to an issue with the coupler on the seats/brake coach of one of the Lowlander portions, the Down Lowlander was run as two separate trains at short notice.
The Edinburgh portion ran as normal from Euston to Edinburgh (via Carstairs). However, the Glasgow portion ran from Watford to Motherwell, with the passengers being conveyed via road or rail from Euston and to Glasgow. This was due to the defective coupler meaning the ECS draw-backs into Euston and out of Glasgow Central were not possible.
Resourcing an additional Class 1 train which requires dedicated locos (Class 92s) and drivers at short notice was no mean feat and required a great team effort from Caledonian Sleeper's traction partner, GB Railfreight.
Whilst the legendary Polmadie driver who worked the additional portion from Watford through to Motherwell deserves a special mention, it also required other drivers on the night to change their turns and go the extra mile(s) - literally!
Unsurprisingly, Crewe Depot's Large brothers were in the thick of it doing their bit to keep the show on the road. Older sibling Steve is seen here with 92010 and the Down Highlander (1S25) on another foray into Platform 12 at Crewe.
