InterCity Stalwarts
One of Locomotive Services Limited's most recent acquisitions, VP185-engined Class 43 HST power car 43047, looks on as Class 86/1, 86101 "Sir William A Stanier FRS" enjoys the warmth of the morning sun having escaped outside Crewe Diesel Depot for the first time this year.
The veteran WCML A/C electric had been moved outside the afternoon before and was awaiting a tow later in the day round the corner to Freightliner's Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VFM) at Basford Hall for traction motor(s) to be changed.
86101 moved to LSL in November 2019 after it was acquired from Electric Traction Limited (the commercial arm of the AC Locomotive Group). It went into Arlington's at Eastleigh soon after and following a prolonged stay due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and some mechanical issues, it eventually returned to Crewe in its new InterCity livery on 23 April 2020.
Due to the pandemic and the locomotive also requiring mechanical attention, 86101 has yet to venture onto the mainline with LSL in its new colours.
Behind 86101 is Class 90, 90002 "Wolf of Badenoch" which has done the lion's share (or is that wolf's share?!) of the electric traction haulage work for LSL / Locomotive InterCity Limited so far.
