Zooming In

A selection of locomotives and stock at Crewe Diesel Depot at the end of a very successful weekend for Locomotive Services Limited during which they launched two new charter services.

Class 90, 90001 "Royal Scot" - which had been due to lead the tour - looks wistfully on having been subbed-out by sister Skoda 002 after 001 suffered a technical issue on the pre-tour test run.

Behind 90001 the very top of the cab of Class 43 HST power car 43059 can be seen. If the short set it is attached to is followed around the roof of the power car at the other end - 43058 - can also be seen. This rake is still in a mix of ex-EMR, GWR and FGW liveries.

Just visible behind/alongside 90001 is one of the depot pilots, Class 08, 08483 "Bungle" and between 90001 and the carriage sheds selected stock highlights include (left to right):

6705* Mk2f RLO "Ardnamurchan" (Mr. Hosking's bedroom coach)

11077 Mk3 FO - still to be repainted into InterCity livery

The red roofs of Ex-Pretendolino Mk3s TSO 12011 and FO 11007*

Mk3 DVT 82127 in (unbranded) InterCity livery

Poking out of the carriage shed is the Nanking Blue Midland Pullman HST which had worked its debut tour the previous day as well. Class 43 power car, 43046 is at this end.

In the shed alongside the "Blue Pullman" is Class 47, 47593 "Galloway Princess" waiting to attach to the rear of the InterCity stock that had just returned from London (out of shot) and draw it back into the carriage shed.

*TSO 12011 and FSO 11007 are owned by the Crewe Diesel Preservation Group.
