Return to the Granite City

After seven and a half months, the Down Highlander (1S25) conveys stock for Aberdeen - albeit to run to the Granite City as ECS (3A25) in preparation for the (brief?) resumption of services from there the following night.

The Aberdeen portion last ran on the night of the 21 March, but has since been suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic and latterly due to the completion of repairs to the line near Stonehaven after the tragic rail crash there in August.

Ironically, although stock was running back to Aberdeen, the Fort William portion was cancelled ahead of service due to stock issues.

The return of the Aberdeen portion is also likely to be short-lived with a month-long "circuit-breaker" lockdown imminent which could well see the services reduced to one train in each direction as was the case in the last national lockdown.

GB Railfreight Class 92, 92018 does the honours working the Caledonian Sleeper to the Highlands through Hartford.
