Locomotive Services Limited's Class 47, 47805 (D1935) "Roger Hosking MA 1925-2013" crosses the Dutton Viaduct on the rear of Saphos Trains' "The Lakelander". The outward leg was running as 1Z61 08:30 Crewe to Carlisle.
With Britannia and Royal Scot both having suffered issues over the previous 10 days, the more diminutive Class 5 "The Sherwood Forester" had stepped up to the plate to haul the tour. Whilst it completed its duties admirably, the 47 was there to perform its usual support role, but also provide a bit of extra horse power from the rear for the steeper climbs.
This was the first of two Black Fives to cross the viaduct in the space of 25 minutes.
