Waiting for the Gronk
Locomotive Services Class 08, 08780 and Class 37, 37667 / D6851 shunt five of the 15 ex-Caledonian Sleepers that had just arrived at Crewe Diesel from Wembley.
After GBRf's 92 038 had brought the rake north from Wembley as 5Z91 to Crewe Gresty Green, 37 667 collected the stock and took it into the depot. The first five coaches were then detached and taken forward by the 37 into the old Platform 1 (in foreground).
08780 then attached from the rear (as pictured) to draw the stock back and release 37667. Finally the gronk propelled the five Mk3s into the former mail sidings alongside the "Horse Landing". The other 10 Mk3s stayed in the sidings alongside the depot.
The five Mk3s behind 37667 were: 10683 + 10519 + 10543 + 10597 + 10529. The other 10 stabled by the depot (not in shot) were 10565 + 10714 + 10719 + 10513 + 10520 + 10650 + 10648 + 10675 + 10504 + 10688.
Nine of the rake are for LSL for use in their charter fleet once refurbed and upgraded, four for onward transfer to the East Lancs Railway (10529 + 10565 + 10714 + 10719) and the remaining two for volunteer/staff accommodation at Telford Steam Railway (10543) and the Ivatt 10000 Recreation Society based at Wirksworth (10597).
