Following in the Footsteps of the Mk5s

Some of the 15 ex-Caledonian Sleeper Mk3s settle in for their first night at Crewe Diesel having just arrived from Wembley. Due to the length of the rake, five of the coaches were shunted into the old mail sidings adjacent to the "Horse Landing".

Visible are 10683 + 10519 + 10543 + 10597 + 10529. The other 10 stabled by the depot (not in shot) were 10565 + 10714 + 10719 + 10513 + 10520 + 10650 + 10648 + 10675 + 10504 + 10688.

Nine of the rake are for LSL for use in their charter fleet once refurbed and upgraded, four for onward transfer to the East Lancs Railway (10529 + 10565 + 10714 + 10719) and the remaining two for volunteer/staff accommodation at Telford Steam Railway (10543) and the Ivatt 10000 Recreation Society based at Wirksworth (10597).

If you'd told me at the start of the year I'd see Mk5 and Mk3 Sleeper stock in these sidings within the space of four months I wouldn't have believed you! (Mk5s in the same spot back in June: flic.kr/p/2gdNCeC.)
