Brush or Bust

The night of 10/11 October 2019 saw the first time the new CAF Mk5 stock was used across all Caledonian Sleeper services.

With the modified GB Railfreight Class 92s (and Class 73/9s north of Edinburgh) being the only locomotives set up to haul the Mk5s in service, this also resulted in the first night ever that Class 92s worked all the Caledonian Sleeper workings (including ECS) under the wires.

On this inaugural night, Class 92, 92033 works the Up Highlander service through a damp Hartford station. The service was running 83 minutes late at this point due to problems with the overhead power supply at Preston. This impacted 1M16, 1S26 and a number of Pendolinos.

The locomotives involved were:

92 014 on 1S25

92 028 on 1S26

92 018 on 1M11

92 033 on 1M16 (pictured)

92 020 on 1C11/1B26 (Carstairs portion)

92 010 on 5M11/5S26 (Glasgow ECS) + 0C11/0B26 (EDB standby)

92 043 on 5S96/5M11 (London ECS)

73 967 + 73 969 on 1M16/1S25 (Inverness portion)

73 968 + 73 971 on 1B16/1A25 (Aberdeen portion)
