Road to Nowhere
With the siding on the right currently empty, a good view is afforded of the long-stored Class 90s and Class 92s on the left. The melancholy sight of the underused and dishevelled electric traction - which cost millions and took thousands of hours to build and maintain - comprises the following (date stored in brackets):
90025 [RfD Grey] (January 2004)
90031 "The Railway Children Partnership" [EWS] (December 2007)
92031 [DB Red] (June 2015)
92009 "Marco Polo" [DB Red] (August 2012)
92007 "Schubert" [RfD Grey / EWS logo] (August 2011)
The row contains the longest stored locomotive at CE - 90025 - and one of the most recently stored Class 92s, 92031. 016 (withdrawn in September 2017 with a cracked transformer) is the only 92 to have been stored since 031.
The empty siding was most recently home to the six Class 60s that were stored since 2014 at Crewe ETD. However, five have moved to Toton in recent months as part of the DCR/Cappagh reinstatement programme and the remaining example - 082 - has been moved to the end of the row on the left and is just out of sight next to 92007.
