Resurrection #2

Stored since February 2006, GB Railfreight’s Class 92, 92 006, leaves Loughborough as the final GB 92 to be reinstated (for now) bringing their active fleet up to a dozen engines.

 

92006 was being assisted by Class 66, 66704 "Colchester Power Signalbox" running as 0Z81 to Crewe DHS, where it was due to commence mainline testing on the WCML.

 

006 was one of nine Class 92s originally owned by SNCF, although like all 92s its home depot was Crewe IEMD and was operated as part of a common pool. It was named “Louis Armand” in May 1994, introduced to traffic in June 1994 and carries Brush Traction Works No. 1103.

 

After the decline in tunnel traffic and with SNCF not being able to find a suitable buyer for its fleet, 92006 was stored in February 2006 at Crewe IEMD.

 

It was eventually purchased by Europorte (the freight subsidiary of Eurotunnel) in May 2011 as they looked to expand their tunnel freight operations. It was subsequently moved on 6Z92 15:00 Crewe IEMD to Dollands Moor on 13 July 2011 by then Colas Class 47 pair 749 and 727 (along with 033 and 018). It was transferred from Dollands to France soon after where it remained in store in Coquelles (Frethun Depot) for several years.

 

Ownership formally transferred to GB Railfreight Ltd from Europorte in February 2014 (at the time GBRf were a subsidiary of Europorte).

 

92006 was returned to Brush, Loughborough in September 2014 via an Allelys Heavy Haulage low-loader.

 

Reinstatement work started in early 2017 and over two years later the immaculately finished article was ready for active duty once more and emerged reborn from its original birthplace of the Brush Traction Falcon Works at Loughborough.
