GB Railreight Class 92, 92 043, basks in the morning sun as it heads south with 5M11 Acton Bridge to Crewe Caledonian Sleeper ECS move after 1M11 was cancelled at the sleepy Cheshire station.
The last in a series of photographs chronicling the cancellation of the Caledonian Sleeper Up Lowlander service (1M11) at Acton Bridge on the morning of Saturday 22 June.
After a TCMS/door interlock fault on the Mk5 stock, the train came to a stand after Acton Grange junction. After c.2.5 hours of attempting to resolve the fault, the train was set up to allow it to crawl to Acton Bridge. 1M11 - with 92043 on the front - was put inside with its rear coach in the platform to ensure the Up Fast was finally cleared.
The service - by then 172 mins late - was then cancelled and the 'guests' detrained and put on the next stopping service south - the 9Y02 London Northwestern Railway service from Liverpool Lime Street to Euston (although most passengers changed at Crewe onto a Virgin Trains service as 9Y02 stops everywhere and takes almost four hours to get to London).
1M11's failure also delayed the Up Highlander service which was stuck behind it at Warrington Bank Quay until 1M11 could be moved. 1M16, which was 107 mins late at that stage, then overtook 1M11 at Acton Bridge - a very rare event.
The Lowlander sleeper stock then moved forward (at a higher speed as was then in ECS mode) on a 5M11 VSTP path to Crewe, where it was stabled in the UDL ahead of a relief driver taking it on to Wembley later in the afternoon as 5Z11.
