Night Star!!

In November 1994, Class 92, 92 020 "Milton" was delivered from the Brush works in Loughborough to European Passenger Services (EPS) with the intention of it being used on the ill-fated Nightstar sleeper services.

Almost a quarter-of-a-century later, 020 hauled her first main trunk run on a sleeper service, taking charge of 1M11 2340 Glasgow Central to London Euston - the Caledonian Sleeper Up Lowlander. The run was successful, with 92020 delivering its guests to Euston 34 minutes early.

After the Nightstar project was cancelled and following a period in the EWS shared pool, 92020 was eventually stored in April 2001. Despite a change of hands to Europorte in February 2007 and then GB Railfreight in February 2014, 92020 remained stored out of use for almost 18 years, spending time at Crewe ETD, Loughborough Brush, Cheriton and Frethun (Calais) before returning to Brush in October 2014.

Reinstatement commenced at Brush at the start of 2017 and it ultimately took until December 2018 for the engine to be released from the works. There was then a period of main line recommissioning and testing, with the loco based at its former home of Crewe ETD, before "Milton" re-entered full-service in March 2019. 020 hauled a Class 1 Sleeper train for the first time on the night of 29th April working the 'Carstairs portion', however tonight was her first main trunk run from Scotland to London.
