Three's a Crowd
I don't usually find anyone else daft enough to be at Hartford station gone midnight to see 1S25 flash through at somewhere approaching 100 mph, however on this occasion a lady and gentleman were already on Platform 2 waiting to wave at their son who was travelling on the Highlander. They were excited to hear that I knew the driver, who kindly obliged with a wave as he passed through.
With the introduction of the Mk5s on the Caledonian Sleeper Highlander service recently officially delayed until 7th/8th July (and even that appears optimistic) the Freightliner Class 90s will remain hired-in by GB Railfreight for at least another few weeks to operate the 'classic' Mk3/Mk2 stock. Skoda 90044 - nearing the end of a six-week spell on the Beds - leads the Down Highlander service from Euston to Edinburgh, where diesel traction takes over to haul the three portions north to Inverness, Aberdeen and Fort William.
