Early Morning Minions
Network Rail's Class 73/9, 73952 "Janis Kong" leads the PLPR1 (Plain Line Pattern Recognition) test train south through Acton Bridge as day breaks. The only other Network Rail 73/9, 73951 "Malcolm Brinded" brings up the rear of the train.
PLPR1 includes Overhead Line Inspection coach "Mentor", which is believed to be the oldest vehicle in the test train fleet.
The locomotives are named after current and former directors of Network Rail.
[Thanks to Swifty's Photos for the additional info on test trains to make me sound vaguely knowledgeable!]
