Edinburgh Cannon Stock

AC Locomotive Group's Class 86, 86 401 "Mons Meg" - on hire to GB Railfreight - departs Euston with the Caledonian Sleeper Lowlander ECS move to Wembley InterCity Depot (5M11).

Just a couple of weeks after this photo was taken an ETH fault curtailed the 53 year-old veteran's loyal service working the Caledonian Sleeper ECS. It was subsequently off-leased on 31 March. As yet there are no confirmed plans for 86401 and the other two AC Locomotive Group engines after their time on the Sleepers ends - however there are rumours some or all may follow many of their class-mates to Eastern Europe.

Mons Meg is named after a famous 15th Century six tonne siege gun (cannon) at Edinburgh Castle.
