Proud Engineer

One of my favourite photos of 92020 so far since its reinstatement - capturing the human element behind these fine machines makes the image that little bit different and more special.

DB Cargo's Rob Fenner looks out of the cab of 020 after a successful test run, looking pleased after a testing week (in more ways than one). Rob, along with colleagues at Crewe ETD and from Brush and GB, has spent two months tirelessly working on 'Milton' since she came out of Brush to get her ready for the mainline. Whilst Class 92s have a habit of biting you on the backside just when you think they're behaving, the hard work seems to be paying off now and 020 is slowly but surely edging her way to becoming a fully operational Class 92 again.

Also with Rob was GB driver Mark (just visible) who previously had the honour of taking 020 on the mainline under her own power for the first time in nearly 18 years back on 23 January.

At the end of its first full week of proper mainline testing, GB Railfreight's recently reinstated Class 92, 92 020, stands in Platform 8 of Crewe station with 92 010 behind.

92010 had earlier led a run from Crewe ETD to Stafford as 0Z95, with 92020 then returning (and performing well) as 0Z96. The engines went via the Basford Hall and Gresty Bridge triangle on the return to turn the locos so 020 was on the south end ready to lead the "Skoda swap" move on Monday as its next test outing.
