Underneath The Arches
AC Locomotive Group's Class 87, 87 002 "Royal Sovereign" was only on the Caledonian Sleeper Lowlander from Glasgow Central (1M11) after a set of circumstances the previous night meant she was the only locomotive left available to take 1S26 north.
These were the 1973-built locomotive's first main trunk runs in over a year and this was only its sixth Class 1 working (excluding Wembley draw-backs) in the last two years. With its wheels wearing thin and 002 due to end its time on hire to GB Railfreight this summer when the Mk5s are fully rolled-out, there's a chance this was the old lady's last time on the Beds. One not to be missed.
