Humble Highland Helper

The longevity of the humble Class 08 shunter is a testament to those who designed and built them. They do what they say on the tin with no frills or complications and - whilst far fewer in number these days - those that remain have stood the test of time.

Built in 1958 at Doncaster works, 08 523 is still working hard on a daily basis at the grand age of 60 years old. RMS Locotec's Inverness-based 'gronk' is seen here preparing to draw the Caledonian Sleeper Highlander stock out of the station after the arrival of the overnight 1S25 service from Euston.
