Last of the Scottish Sleeper Spoons?

GBRf Class 47, 47 749 "City of Truro" - back then still in the colours of previous owner Colas Rail - prepares to depart Edinburgh Waverley with the 5B26 Caledonian Sleeper Lowlander ECS back to Polmadie on 24 September 2018.

It is likely that 47749 was nearing the end of a very long chapter of Class 47 involvement in the Scottish Sleepers. It worked the Lowlander Edinburgh/Carstairs portion (1C11/1B26) the following two nights (25th and 26th), then the northbound Aberdeen portion (1A25) on Saturday 6th October. However, a fuel leak ahead of its planned working of the return journey (1B16) on the Sunday night curtailed its involvement in Class 1 Sleeper services in ignominious fashion.

With the Lowlander now moving over to the new Mk5 stock and the 47s now all based at Leicester preparing to perform their core role delivering new Bombardier units, the Class 47s' long association with the Scottish Sleepers would appear to be over.
