Frosty Forty Three

The rare sight away from the Channel Tunnel of two Class 92s together with their pans up - 92s cannot operate in multiple in "BR" modes (i.e. on Network Rail metals) so this is not a typical sight. However, for the short shunt out of the Crewe Down Holding Siding into the station ahead of 92043's move to Brush, both 92043 and 92014 were panned up to facilitate the move.

The frosted windscreen of 92043 betrays the very cold chill that was in the air and is a likely clue as to why 043's pan was up to get key mechanical functions working in preparation for its move Brush to be the final active Class 92 to receive the CAF mods to be able to haul the new Mk5 sleeper stock.

GB Railfreight's Class 92s, 92 043 and 92 014, stand on the UDL at Crewe station awaiting 043's transfer to Brush on 0D51 courtesy of 66 731. 014 had been stabled on top of 043 in the siding in the Crewe neck, so brought its sister locomotive into the station, before running round and back into the siding to await STVA duties the following day.
