Back Home

Finally back at her birthplace after many years hidden away in France, GB Railfreight's Class 92, 92 040 "Goethe" casts a disconsolate figure on stands in the yard at the Brush Works, Loughborough. Heavily stripped and with her bogies on a trailer alongside, the long-time stored 92 faces an uncertain future.

92040 was one of the European Passenger Services (EPS) Class 92s allocated for the failed Nightstar European sleeper services. After seeing very little use as a shared pool locomotive, 040 was eventually withdrawn in April 2001 and stored at Crewe IEMD after EPS could not find a buyer for their seven 92s.

92040 was finally bought by Europorte (Eurotunnel's freight subsidiary) on 15 Feb 2007 and eventually moved to France where it was continued to be stored in Frethun depot. Europorte sold all their 16 Class 92s to their then-subsidiary GB Railfreight in February 2014.
