It must be some time since a Class 92 ran light engine through Platform 6 at Crewe. They are daily visitors to one of Crewe's longest platforms with the Caledonian Sleeper Highlander services, however typically light engine moves through the station will run via the UDL or Platform 12.
With Platforms 11 and 12 and the UDL under a line block for overnight maintenance, GB Railfreight's Class 92, 92 044 "Couperin" was routed via Platform 6 as it headed to Crewe ETD on 0Z23 from Wembley Yard.
This was a welcome diversion as it took 92044 out of the dingy UDL and under some better lighting. 044 was on its way to receive some TLC from DB Cargo, who now supply certain repair and refurbishment services to GBRf for their Class 92 fleet.
