With the new Mk5 stock expected to be launched in a few months and at least three Class 92s converted, or being converted, to 1500v ETS to conduct WCML testing, the Freightliner Class 90s remain on-hire to back-fill on the existing Mk3/Mk2 services.
Class 90, 90 049 is seen hauling the Highlander north through Hartford en route to Edinburgh. Having previously been one of the regular 90s hired to GB Railfreight for sleeper work, 90049 had not been on the Beds for over a year.
The FL 90s have been hired-in for over three years now - initially due to reliability issues with the 92s, but subsequently to supplement the fleet as the 92s underwent CAF mods and then commenced Mk5 testing.
