Johan and Geoff Hang Out at Brush
Having sat alongside 046 for many years, GB Railfreight's stored Class 92, 92 045 "Chaucer" is now positioned alongside 92 040 "Goethe" in the yard at Loughborough Brush. 040 is named after German writer and statesman Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and 045 is named after English poet and author Geoffrey Chaucer.
Along with 046 and 021 (which has taken 045's previous place alongside 046) these 92s have sacrificed many of their parts to support the rest of the GB fleet and face an uncertain future.
All four engines were part of the original seven Class 92s allocated to European Passenger Services for use with the ill-fated Nightstar sleeper service. Whilst they did see active service on freight duties as part of the common pool of Class 92s, they remained under the ownership of EPS and were withdrawn in late April 2001 when EPS failed to find a buyer for them. Although Europorte subsequently acquired them in 2007, they have remained stored ever since.
