2012-Forester_Full-Size-Spare

I found I was able to fit a full size wheel & tire, fully inflated, into the spare tire well, fill it up with my recovery gear, and still have the cargo floor sit perfectly flush.

I've removed the factory scissor jack (and its foam) as I now carry a bottle jack which tucks away nicely under the front passenger seat, next to a small toolbox loaded with the basics. It was also necessary to remove the center foam piece, but the two side foam pieces were able to remain with no problem.

There's quite a bit of space inside the full size spare wheel...between that, the space around it, and the foam compartments, I was able to fit in:

-Snatch strap and two D-shackles

-Fire extinguisher

-Air compressor

-Extra quart of oil

-Funnel for adding oil

-Breaker bar with 17mm socket

-Jumper cables

-Four ratchet straps

-Wheel chock

-First aid kit

-Emergency food

-Work gloves

-Subaru recovery hook (normally embedded in the jack foam)

-Flashlight

-Compass

-Tire pressure gauge

-Bungee cords of various sizes

-Packet of zip ties

-Extra D-shackle

-Plank for jack (if needed in dirt)

-Benchmark Oregon atlas

I was thinking I would need to mount a full size spare in the roof basket but I'm quite pleased to get it tucked in to its proper place AND still get all this other stuff in, all below the cargo area floor.
