Microsoft added more than 100 million building footprints to Open street map
Bing, the search engine of Microsoft with the help of its mapping team added about 125 million building footprints in USA to open street map community. There team used a Microsoft developed CNTK toolkit for this purpose. They detected building footprints from the Bing imagery. Two primary stages involved in this process were 'Semantic Segmentation' and 'Polygonization'. As the footprints were detected from Bing imageries they consist of noise distortion and suspicious data which were erased from predictions and then a Polygonization algorithm was applied to detect the building edges and angels. As a result of this process proper buildings were created.
